ABOUT
Dai Hasegawa, known as “Monkey Monk,” is a multimedia artist from Fukui, Japan. After developing his skills and artistic style in Los Angeles, he returned to Japan. He uses oils, acrylics, spray paint, and graphic design to create masterpieces ranging from small canvases to large murals. His art invites observers to question themselves and explore their subconscious. His goal is for his audience to look deeper than the surface to uncover meaning.
Through surrealism, Dai employs various angles and symbols to express his thoughts and raise awareness of environmental issues and self-improvement. His love of nature greatly influences his work. The “Monkey Monk” is both a mountain man from Japan and an urban warrior navigating the streets of LA, integrating graffiti techniques into his canvas paintings. For over a decade, Dai has been shaping his unique artistic character by exploring nature and different cultures, curating a mysterious vibe through his brushstrokes and aerosol cans.
“I enjoy everyone’s different perspective and value them equally.” - Dai Hasegawa
